A passion for natural building materials
We have been working with unfired clay and other natural materials since 2001 and wrote 2 books about natural finishes and natural building. In 2009, we decided to create and manufacture the best, ready-made natural clay plaster in the world.
100% interior plasters
We launched our 100% natural, Bath University-tested, interior plasters in November 2011.
All made in Cornwall, they are:
- 100% bio-degradable
- 100% recyclable
- 100% reusable
They have less embodied energy than lime renders and gypsum and contain no caustic materials.
Replacing synthetic surface materials
Clay Plasters lend themselves for interior branding and the creation of dramatic effects. Example shown in the photo above taken at Nandos, Staines. The beautiful plasters can replace many other surface materials, including gypsum, concrete, plasters with synthetic ingredients and more. Not only can the plasters create extraordinary interior design solutions, such as mimicking polished concrete, traditional plasters, stucco, Tadelakt, Venetian plaster and others, they also have scientifically proven superior environmental and performance benefits.
Made from a blend of unfired clay and sands there is little energy consumed in the mixing process.
Absorbing humidity and reducing bacteria
Unfired clay can absorb and desorb indoor humidity faster than any other building material. Clay plasters regulate relative interior humidity between 40% and 70%, the temperature that research has shown has the lowest likelihood for airborne infectious bacteria and virus to survive and that also prevents building materials from off gassing toxins, such as formaldehyde.
Wall moulds and areas of damp are minimised by the hygroscopic properties of clay plaster. Hence, the life of the building fabric is longer than alternatives.
There is related evidence of how clay plaster can treat pollutants and neutralize odours in rooms helping to maintain a healthy atmosphere. Clay plasters are anti-static and can help screen electromagnetic radiation.
Great products deserve great communication
The challenge however, was how to communicate all of the above?
So we turned to Innovate UK for assistance and used an Innovation Voucher to bring in the expertise of materials specialists who were able to interpret all of our technical data and research into a concise collection of infographics and copy that spoke the language of architects and designers.
Celebrity Designers and a cheeky Nando's
Their work allowed us to take our plasters to the international architecture & design sector and we have since supplied plasters in 120 Nando's restaurants globally, Wahaca restaurants, Gloucester Services, Paul Smith designer stores, projects for celebrity designers including a background for a Nicole Farhi photoshoot (pictured above), a Toast store, several big projects in the Middle East, a large gallery in Lagos and many luxury homes such as The Lakes by Yoo.
Polished concrete effect plasters
In the last year we have perfected our polished concrete effect clay plaster which, given the insatiable appetite globally for this finish, means that 100% natural plasters can replace thousands of tons of concrete.
Replacing carbon hungry products
The current 2nd industrial revolution is about replacing carbon hungry, toxic products with those that occur naturally and that solve more problems than they create and we are proud, that with Innovate’s help, we are part of it.
