We design, manufacture, install and commission small-scale hydropower turbines that cover the full range of head and flows up to 5 MW capacity.

We are the only company in the UK or Ireland to design manufacture or install propeller type turbines, and are currently expanding our operations at a rate of 25% annually. We also offer a complete solution including ecological assessments.

Market need for improved hydrology and energy modelling

There is limited ability to carry out physical simulation of proposed new designs, which then limits our ability to develop new products and conduct research and development.

We identified a market need for improved hydrology and energy modelling in response to policy pressure on the viability of UK hydroelectric schemes.

Developing in-house capability to perform computational simulation

With our Innovate UK funding, we have been forming partnerships to work towards developing an in-house capability to perform computational simulation.

We are working with modelling and simulation specialists CFMS and WIKKI Ltd to create a customised Virtual Turbine Environment for the hydroelectric sector.

This will include models for the engineering assessment of sites and the installation effects of specific turbines.

We are using the latest in computational fluid dynamics simulation running on supercomputing facilities provided by CFMS at the Bristol and Bath Science Park; also where CFMS and ourselves are based.

Deploy most efficient clean energy generation capacity in the UK

This in-house ability will reduce our project life cycle enabling us to reduce costs and increase productivity. Our position in the market is currently limited by our project life cycle and we have an extensive order book, which could be exploited at twice the current rate with this added ability.

The funding we’ve received from Innovate UK means we can help deploy most efficient clean energy generation capacity in the UK and ultimately into the European and overseas markets.

This will enable us to see continued growth in the engineering team in an ever- changing market.
