Innovate 2016’s tech stars of the show

Prog rock and innovation?

What does an event that helps entrepreneurs scale up and grow have to do with a secret love of progressive rock music?

If you’re a young business looking for funding, investment, collaborative partners or export markets, the answer may not be that obvious – but keep reading.  The link between them is absolutely central to Innovate 2016, which returns on 2nd and 3rd November and is coming to Manchester for the very first time.

Helping UK companies expand across the globe

The show has helped countless entrepreneurs for years by helping them access funding, collaborators, and since 2013 an increasing number of export opportunities in markets across the globe.  It’s also become an incredible platform that showcases the UK as an inward investment destination – companies who are looking to the UK to set up or expand their operations get a chance to see how successfully you can innovate here, expand into other markets, and the business support we offer that makes it possible.

But the real stars of the show are the exhibitors.  Every year, the UK’s leading innovators and entrepreneurs are hand-picked to showcase their game changing technologies.  We pride ourselves on showing innovations that were born and nurtured in the UK and will one day become the export success stories of tomorrow.

Bringing it back to prog rock

Over the years I’ve seen amazing exhibits including flying wings, Mars rovers and geostationary satellites.  This year is no different and sees yet another great line-up – which brings me back to the prog rock connection.

My personal favourite this year has to be EventHalo.  Founded in 2015, their founders identified a gap for integrated, location-enabled solutions to problems faced by large, outdoor event organisers such as music festivals.  Within a year they’d partnered with Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD festival, hired a world-class design and development team, and began building a tool to service the UK valuable festival market.   It’s now on track to becoming another great British export story too, having deployed at two European festivals.

Start your own story at Innovate 2016

This story typifies what you can do at Innovate 2016 if you’re a tech entrepreneur.  You’ll find the support you need to start up, commercialise and export – all in two days.  I promise you won’t be disappointed and I’d love to meet you there – although if Peter Gabriel shows up I may be busy indulging in a spot of hero worship….
