Developing new augmented and virtual reality experiences

Our recent activities have focused on driving new means of engagement with the benchmark CGI content we produce, both for our clients and – importantly – their clients & stakeholders.

The last 6 years in particular have seen us innovating with custom applications for mobile, and developing new augmented and virtual reality experiences for the latest headsets and hardware, all based on the visual environments we generate.

We have also developed our own ‘Immersive Reality Portal', which allows audiences to experience VR in groups, at human scale, and in full field of view.

Implementing augmented reality into the construction sector

We were driven to apply for Innovate UK’s ‘IC Tomorrow’ programme in 2015 as it was pretty much the ideal opportunity for us!

The Crossrail challenge we were awarded funding for involved developing functional and practical augmented reality for the construction sector, aiming to deliver improvements in onsite efficiency and safety.

Since winning the funding competition, we’ve been working with both Daqri and Crossrail and have completed our proof of concept, confirming that our heads-up, hands-free solution (called ‘InSite’) really has the potential to fundamentally improve the commissioning, sign-off and handover phases of complex construction projects in the very near future.

Next stage: democratising augmented reality

Google Cardboard, Samsung GEAR VR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and even Pokémon Go to a lesser degree, have all played their part in bringing immersive visualisation technologies to the attention of the masses.

Soluis are now in the process of developing a number of large scale, augmented, virtual and mixed reality solutions that will look to capitalise on the democratisation of these technologies.

These solutions will blend real-world and CGI content, and use both our own Reality Portal & the devices mentioned above, to enable virtual training, learning, design, tourism, construction, engineering and much more.

We anticipate enabling potentially vast numbers of professional audiences to realise the promise of VR & AR – and InSite, funded by InnovateUK, is at the forefront of this process.

We are very excited to be in the vanguard of applying these incredible new communication platforms to the wider world!
